  • Dr. Yang received the Bio-X Interdisciplinary Initiative Award to develop high-throuhgput biomaterials platform for smooth muscle regeneration!
  • Welcome Maya Yamane and Danqing Zhu to join the Yang lab!
  • Fan Yang lab has been awarded funding from California Institute of Regenerative Medicine to develop induced pluripotent stem cell-based therapy for treating urinany incontinence!
  • Dr. Yang gave an invited talk at the Internatinoal Conference of IEEE Engineering in Medicine & Biology Society in San Diego, CA.

August

  • Lorenzo's paper on paracrine release from non-viral engineered adipose-derived stem cells on endothelial cell behavior is publisehd in "Stem Cells and Development". Congratulations Lorenzo!
  • Josh presented his summer research at the SSRP symposium and Janet presented her work in the HBREX poster session!

  • Janice was selected to receive the highly competitive DARE (Diversifying Academia, Recruiting Excellence) Fellowship! DARE fellowships recognize and prepare outstanding students from diverse backgrounds for academic careers and to have them, at the same time, enrich the educational experiences of others. Congratulations Janice!
  • Soah has been awarded the highly competitive Bio-X Predoctoral Fellowship! Bio-X fellowship recognizes outstanding students who have great potential for a successful future at the crossroads of biology and other sciences. Congratulations Soah!
  • Lorenzo's manuscript on therapeutic angiogeneis has been accepted by Theranostics. Congratulations Lorenzo!
  • Dr. Yang gave an invited talk at Interntaionl Workshop on Nanomedicine in Beijing, China.

May

  • Janice has been awarded the prestigious ARCS Scholar Fellowship! ARCS award recognizes outstanding students who have a record of past achievement and who show exceptional promise of making a significant contribution to the scientific and technological strength of the nation.
  • Lorenzo has been selected to receive the highly competitive MSTP Fellowship! This award provides a select group of medical students with an opportunity to pursue a Ph.D. training program designed to equip them for careers in academic investigative medicine.
  • Yang group members had a great time hiking in the Rancho San Antonio open space reserve.
  • Dr. Yang has been awarded the 3M Nontenured Faculty Grant! This award recognizes outstanding young faculty for the quality and pertinence of their research and is intended to help them achieve tenure, remain in their academic positions and conduct research.
  • Raissa Largman has been awarded a REU fellowship to support her research in Yang lab this summer. Congratulations and welcome Raissa!
  • Janet Chikofsky has been awarded a HB-REX fellowship to support her research in Yang lab this summer. Congratulations and welcome Janet!

April

  • Members from Yang lab (Michael, Lorenzo, Janice, Michelle, Shaheen) gave 5 presentations at the Annual Conference of Orthopaedic Research Society held in San Francisco, Feb 4-7th.

January

  • Prof. Yang has been selected to receive the 2012 Basil O'Connor Starter Scholar Research Award from the March of Dimes Foundation! This award also provides funding to Yang lab to develop novel stem cell and biomaterials-based therapy for treating congential defects.
  • Yang lab had a fun lab outing at Ming's restaurant to celebrate the Chinese New Year-Dragon year!
  • Prof. Yang became an Associate Member of the Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine (ISCBRM) at Stanford University.
  • Work from Yang lab have been accepted for three podium presentations in the upcoming Materials Research Society Conference to be held in Apr 2012. Congratulations to lead authors Leo, Xinming and Zhe!
  • Soah Lee, a 1st year Ph.D. Student in Materials Science Engineering Department, joined Yang lab for a rotation. Welcome Soah!
