  • Soah’s paper on “Effect of poly(ethylene glycol) hydrogel crosslinking mechanism on protein release" has been published in Biomater Sci!

October

  • Prof. Yang gave an invited seminar at Georgia Institute of Technology Parker H. Petit Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences at Atlanta, GA.
  • Six members from our group (Xinming, Soah, Xinyi, Heather, Christine and Bogi) presented their work at the annual Biomedical Engineering Society Conference in Tampa, FL.
  • Our collaborative work with Bhutani’s lab on “3D hydrogel scaffolds for articular chondrocyte culture and cartilage generation" has been published in J Vis Exp!
  • Welcome Dr. Yaohui Tang to join our lab as a postdoc fellow!

  • Michael, Maya and Meelim’s collaborative review paper on “Nanocoating for biomolecule delivery using layer-by-layer self-assembly” has been published in “Journal of Materials Chemistry B”.

August

  • Xinming’s paper on “Long-term controlled protein release from poly(ethylene glycol) hydrogels by modulating mesh size and degradation” has been published in Macromolecular Bioscience!

July

  • Bonnie has been selected to receive the prestigious Stanford Interdisciplinary Graduate Fellowship. Congratulation Bonnie!
  • Xinyi’s paper on “Local delivery of mutant CCL2 protein reduced orthopaedic implant wear particle-induced osteolysis and inflammation in vivo” has been accepted for publication in “Journal of Orthopaedic Research”!
  • Welcome Dr. Zhibin Wang and Dr. Jianfeng Li to join our lab as new postdoc fellows!

May

  • Welcome Courtney Geggs, a 1st year Bioengineering Ph.D. student to join Fan Yang lab for thesis research!
  • Prof. Yang has been selected to receive a Bio-X seed grant to develop in vitro tumor models to elucidate brain tumor/vasculature interactions!
  • Prof. Yang gave an invited seminar at University of Pennsylvania Bioengineering Department, Philadelphia, PA.

  • Prof. Yang, Xinyi and Xinming presented at the Annual Society for Biomaterials Conference in Charlotte, NC.
  • Our joint paper with Bhutani lab on early induction of chondrogenesis from iPSCs is published in FASEB J.
  • Our collaborative work with Daldrup-Link lab on improving iPSC chondrogenesis has been published in Stem Cell Rev.
  • Lorenzo’s paper on microfluidic synthesis of hydrogel microspheres for controlled biomolecule delivery is published in ACS Biomaterials Science & Engineering.

March

  • Prof. Yang has been selected to receive the Tools and Technologies Grant award by California Institute of Regenerative Medicine! This initiative intends to support research that leads to designing and testing of broadly applicable novel tools and technologies for addressing translational bottlenecks to stem cell therapies. 
  • Bonnie and Xinyi presented their work at the Orthopaedic Research Society Conference in Las vegas, NV.

February

  • Prof. Yang gave an invited seminar at Bioengineering Department at University of Washington, Seattle, WA.
  • Janice’s paper on interactions between osteoarthritic chondrocytes and adipose-derived stem cells is published in Tissue Engineering Part A.
  • Our joint paper with Bhutani lab on Collagen VI enhances cartilage repair is published in Tissue Engineering Part A.

January

  • Prof. Yang has been awarded a R01 grant by National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research!
  • Our joint paper with Bhutani lab on “Comparative Potential of Juvenile and Adult Human Articular Chondrocytes for Cartilage Tissue Formation in 3D Biomimetic Hydrogels” in published in Tissue Engineering Part A.
  • Prof. Yang presented at the BMES-CMBE conference at St. Thomas, VI.
